February 14-16, 2008. PA Hamburg sponsored a three-day conference on "Schools with Migrant Background", in which two U.S. experts participated: Prof. John Mollenkopf from the City University of New York and Prof. Margery Martin from New York University. The Hamburg intercultural NGO verikom had organized the conference in cooperation with the University of Hamburg and the ZEIT foundation. While John Mollenkopf took part in a panel discussion on the children of immigrants in the school system in Europe and the U.S., Margery Martin spoke about serving the academic needs of immigrant youth and confronting barriers to student success. The conference exposed a high-caliber audience of close to 300 German and international integration and educational experts, high school principals and teachers, academics and decision-makers on U.S. best practices and current academic research at prestigious U.S. universities.
