Selected Events 2006Ambassador Timken Visits Bremen and Tarmstedt | ||
July 6-7, 2006. Ambassador William Robert Timken, Jr., met local officials and businessmen, visited cultural institutions, spoke to large audiences, and addressed journalists’ questions in Bremen and Tarmstedt, delivering a strong message of German-American friendship. Ambassador and Mrs. Timken’s trip to Bremerhaven’s new German Emigration Center museum and on to the region of Lower Saxony where the Ambassador’s ancestors lived was a human-interest story of discovery, and a celebration of the strong and enduring ties between the German and American peoples. The meetings with Bremen City State Mayor Jens Boehrnsen and Lower Saxony Minister President Christian Wulff, the Ambassador’s speech at the CARE Germany 60 year anniversary event, the opening of the largest fair of agricultural products in Northern Germany in Tarmstedt by Minister President Wulff and the Ambassador, and the guided tours in Tarmstedt and Wilstedt were the highlights of the visit. |
