March 10, 2006. Consul General Butcher welcomed a 20-member delegation, led by Landraetin Kathrin Knuth, from the Landkreis Mecklenburg-Strelitz. The delegation included members of all four political parties represented in the Landkreis government (CDU, SPD, PDS, FDP), as well as business and farming representatives. The visit to the Consulate was originally conceived during former U.S. Ambassador Dan Coats' trip to Neustrelitz in 2005, and served to expand on the already active cooperation between Mecklenburg-Strelitz and the Consulate.The delegation presented its new strategic growth program (which was also signed by Beirat members in the Consulate's ballroom) and was provided an overview by Consulate staff on business and cultural exchange programs. The possible establishment of a USA Library Corner in Mecklenburg-Strelitz will be explored further.
