Hamburg Round Table with Practitioners Serving Immigrant Communities

CG Johnson and integration team

October 11, 2007. Consul General Karen Johnson and PA Hamburg welcomed 14 German participants of the State Department-sponsored “integrationXchange” program of the Koerber Foundation and CDS International. The group will travel to New York at the end of the month to take part in on-site professional training and workshops, examining U.S. strategies and approaches designed to integrate immigrants in their communities and societies.
The round table with CG Johnson gave the participants a chance to discuss their upcoming visit and their work, which ranges from helping pre-school children, teaching German to mothers from conservative immigrant families, tutoring high school and university students with a migrant background and offering vocational training to working for a Turkish NGO in Hamburg. Their exchange program advances Mission Germany’s goal of reaching out to German Muslim and minority populations
