Head Librarian Frau Spiecker, Consul General Butcher and Greifswald's Mayor König

January 24, 2006. Hamburg Consul General Duane Butcher, Greifswald Mayor Koenig, and the Greifswald City Library inaugurated an "America@ your library®" partnership on January 24. Mayor Koenig and City Library Director Angelika Spiecker welcomed the opportunity to provide Greifwald’s young people with a broad selection of books on American society and culture. The opening day program included a discussion by CG Butcher with a Herder Gymnasium school class of 25 students and a reception.
The partnership enables the library over the next two years to combine books and other media about the U.S. with cultural programs and workshops. The event and the project were very positively featured in the Ostsee Zeitung, highlighting First Lady Laura Bush as initiator of the @yourlibrary concept. The local TV station GTV broadcasted a report on January 28.
