Selected Events 2006

October 16-19, 2006. The Public Affairs section teamed up with “America @ your library” partners in four cities in Mecklenburg-Pomerania to carry out a series of youth exchange fairs. More than 350 high school and university students, parents, teachers and young professionals in Wismar, Neubrandenburg, Greifswald and Stralsund had the opportunity to meet with representatives and returnees from exchange organizations, including AFS, AIFS, AYUSA, Experiment, Partnership International and YFU. Cultural Affairs Assistant Martina Schulze made presentations about exchange opportunities for young Germans and Information Resource Director Christiane Schaffer promoted Mission Germany information resources and services, and answered questions about the U.S. The events encouraged young Germans to spend time abroad in the U.S. and generated widespread media interest and coverage. Both the libraries and the exchange organizations expressed great interest in taking part in a similar road show in 2007.
