The African-American Experience Illuminated for Educators and Students

Author Ethel Morgan Smith

Author Ethel Morgan Smith

January 31, 2006. IRC arranged two programs for U.S. Speaker Ethel Morgan Smith, University of West Virginia, in Hamburg. She gave a reading from her work at Gymnasium Heidberg and a presentation at the teacher training institute. She engaged her audiences in lively Q&A sessions and answered a wide range of questions about her personal life as well as the current state of the civil rights movement.
Educators received authentic insights into African-American life and were exposed to new books and films suitable to teaching the topic in the secondary English language classroom.
