May 7, 2007. Consul General Duane C. Butcher and the ZEIT foundation hosted a reception for 84 North German alumni of the International Visitor Leadership Program, the Congress Bundestag Youth Exchange Program and the Fulbright Program. Dr. Markus Baumanns, member of the board of the foundation and a 2002 IVLP alumnus, welcomed the guests and stressed how invaluable his participation has been for his work and the foundation, resulting in close U.S.-German ties. He also announced the creation of a new transatlantic academy that will be located in Washington, DC and funded by the foundation and the German Marshall Fund. In his remarks, CG Butcher highlighted the importance of personal contacts to promote mutual understanding and the vital transatlantic network of alumni that U.S.-government supported programs have helped to establish. The ZEIT foundation generously hosted the reception at the museum, which included guided tours of the current exhibit with works of the Hudson River School.
